Example of coded clue needed

From: Laura/Nautilus (naturbuf@gwi.net) | Date: 2004-04-27 01:26:53 UTC
I'm giving a presentation on letterboxing on Wednesday and I'd like to
give an example of a coded clue to the audience (preferrably one far
from Maine where we live so it doesn't spoil any surprises for
anyone). Not anything overly complex or long - I don't want to scare
anybody off here. Also, if there is a good cryptic one that someone
wouldn't mind me using (again something farther from Maine would be
good) I would very much appreciate it. I already have a straight
forward, an orienteering, a visual, a poetic, and a narrative/story.
Any other major types that folks feel I'm missing?

Silent Doug has a good list with examples of each type. I'll look for the
link that includes examples. Here are the types he listed:

Directional
Photographic
Mathematic, Observational
Comic Book
Literary
Historical Fiction
Mystery
Science and Nature
Cryptographic
Driving
Poetic

Feel free to use the clues for RA RA RA, my mystery box. It's not an easy
one, but you be the judge. :-)

Nautilus--You have my permission to use "Navajo Code Talkers"

http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.asp?
boxnum=7687&boxname=Navajo_Code_Talkers

--it might be a little easier. My "Three Keys" box uses a cipher but
some of the clues need to be solved locally.

Thanks for asking the question. The responses helped me find some
neat puzzles to work on for a while.
